Barbara Loe Fisher is co-founder and president of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), a nonprofit organization she helped establish in 1982 to reduce vaccine injuries and deaths through public education. Over four decades, she has researched and publicly articulated the science, policy, law, and ethics of vaccination, becoming one of the most recognized non-medical consumer advocates in the country on the subject of vaccine safety and informed consent.
Fisher is the co-author of DPT: A Shot in the Dark (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1985) and has since authored three additional books on the doctor-patient relationship and vaccine policy. She founded The Vaccine Reaction, a weekly digital journal, and contributes regularly as a commentator on vaccine science and public health policy.
She has served on multiple federal advisory bodies, testified before Congress and state legislatures, and worked directly with lawmakers on federal vaccine safety legislation. Her advocacy work has been featured in documentary film and broadcast media, and she remains an active voice on informed consent and individual health freedom.
